I most enjoyed the 2nd section of Childhood in America. In particular Anne Scott Macleod's article about girl hood in the 19th century. It reenforced the notions that i already had in the gender roles of both males and females. I also found it interesting that in the article written by Karin Calvert it seems to me that grils were conditioned early to be women while boys had idle time to play. Even when grils were playing with their dools it became training for womenhood. this still seems true today. The topics in the section really do not apply to my topic of mixraced childern. perhaps i will change my topic to focus more on gender roles--there seems to be more information. This section provides many childern accounts which i could use as a jumping off point for my paper. Also i have a chinese history book that has examples of childern working with their parents. this could be incorperated with my paper about gender roles because chinese boys and grils had differant responsiblities. I would now respond to another students writing but i'm unsure of how to read other type posts. I will ask in class. Sorry
